I have a little potted bay tree here at Frugally Well. It has hitherto been thriving in it's new 2014 bigger pot. However, things have changed and all is not well.
I love my potted herbs, I take great care of them as I use them extensively in my cooking. I also love to crush a leaf or two to smell when I'm pottering around in my little garden.
About three weeks ago I noticed that my bay tree was looking the worse for wear. Although one side had new growth the other was looking very brown and upset. Only this week did I notice a 'weed' growing. I didn't pull it out, it was small and seemed insignificant, this turned out to be my bad judgement I'm afraid.
Yesterday I looked sadly at my little bay and thought I'd perhaps harvest the remaining healthy leaves to dry and replace the plant. On close inspection the weed was now thriving and had familiar looking leaves. It's a potato plant!

I had reused some compost from an old potato bin to repot the bay in the spring and obviously there had been a tiny spud in it which has sprung to life.
Today, I shall be carefully removing a potato plant from my bay tree pot and keeping my fingers crossed that my bay will survive this alien invasion.
