Seared on the griddle pan and pink and juicy inside,
homemade burgers are always welcome
| HM burger with onion relish and Jack cheese |
It was the hottest day of the year so far today, Himself has been on a hot bus driving all day and I've been working which means driving in my car from house to house in the heat. Neither of us felt like cooking so we went for an easy option, and a bit of a treat as good minced beef isn't the cheapest option.
Our burgers aren't the stuff of songs or poetry but are tasty, meaty and substantial. They are also quick which is good as the kitchen at FW is south facing and as I forgot to pull the blind down when I left for work was scorching hot today.
If I was making this for a tight budget day I would use mixed pork and beef mince but we allow ourselves one treat each week and this was it served on a dollop of onion relish in ciabatta bread, there was also a rasher of streaky bacon but I forgot to put it in the photo, too hungry to wait.

Makes 4 burgers
Ingredients:
- 500g minced beef
- 1 egg
- Finely chopped parsley
- 1 tsp dijon or English mustard
- S&P (or pepper and a tbsp of oyster sauce, John Torode does this in his restaurant )
- Cheese, Monterey Jack
- 1 rasher of bacon
Serving options:
Cornichons
Onion
Salad leaves from the garden
Coleslaw
Potato salad
Tomato
Cucumber
Cucumber
Avocado
Mayonnaise
Bread rolls
Fries
Put your minced beef (or other minced meat or fish) into a bowl and add the chopped parsley, mustard, pepper, oyster sauce and the egg. Mix with a fork to combine well and then form into 4 equal patties, put onto a plate and cover with cling wrap then put in the fridge to chill for at least an hour.
When you're ready to cook heat your griddle or frying pan dry and paint the oil over the burgers. Then fry over a medium heat for about 4 minutes each side for medium, or adjust to your own taste. Only turn once or you could risk breaking your burger.
If adding cheese, just before your burger is done pre heat your grill and put the cheese over, pop under the grill to melt it and put them into the bread rolls with whatever fillings and sides you want.
| I like mine just the other side of medium |
Please note that if you wish to eat your burger medium or rare you need to make sure your minced meat is good quality and not pre frozen.
