Sausage fest :) Toad in the Hole

Having undertaken the freezer evaluation I decided for tonight's delight I would defrost one pack of the YS pork and tomato sausages I'd stashed away last week.

The plan is Toad in the Hole (TITH), roasted tinned potatoes for himself these are amazing roasted - the last bit of frozen mash for me with veggies from the freezer and some rich pork gravy I found in there which is also defrosting with the snorkers.

By my reckoning the whole meal, using half the sausages, one egg, flour, gravy, 1 level tbsp skimmed milk powder and frozen veg should come in at around £1.50p or £0.75p per serving.

I chunk my sausages so that portion control is easier.  Four sausages easily fed one very large fella and a hungry girl.

Browned off for two reasons, colour and to render some fat to put into the tin for the batter.

Ready to go!

And after 35 minutes at 200 degrees C

The up close and personal, look at the steam to the right of the photo.  The batter was light and crisp, the sausages weren't tomatoey but had a slightly sweet and spicy taste which we loved.  This was my portion.  The whole meal was very filling and satisfying and we yummed the lot up!

I changed my mind about serving roasted tinned potatoes and gave Himself some chips from the freezer as the freezer challenge is priority right now.

The final cost will remain £0.75 per portion as the chips were Smartprice on offer and I only served a few as the yorkshire pud batter is filling.
